Hello once again, Renegades! As we roll into the third week of the 2017-2018 school year, I wanted to extend a warm welcome to all of the new faces joining us at Shawnee High School, from the new freshman class of 2021 to students just transferring into our school system. For those of you who don’t know, here at Shawnee we have this weekly briefing every Monday called the 5 Things You Need To Know For This Week. The briefing is a quick run-down of the 5 most important events happening at our school for the week. Physical printed copies of the 5 Things can usually be found in your period 1 class, the counseling center, and the main office. On the Shawnee TV slideshow that happens throughout the day, you can also find the 5 Things in slide format. And finally, you can find digital versions on the Shawnee High School Twitter account and right here at the Renegade Report.

Now, without further ado, here are the 5 Things You Need To Know for the week of September 18th:

  1. To celebrate the first Shawnee Football home game this Friday, we we’re having a school spirit week. Spirit week will culminate with a Pep Rally on Friday, September 22nd, at 12:57 pm. The spirit days are as follows:
    • (a)Merica Monday
    • Tropical Tuesday
    • White Out Wednesday
    • BLUE PRIDE Friday (wear any Shawnee apparel or just something blue if you have none. Shawnee apparel can be bought in the school store.)
  2. This Thursday, September 21st, is Rosh Hashanah. There will be no school (so you can sleep in. Or catch up on homework. Or your favorite Netflix shows.)
  3. ASVAB testing will be held Tuesday, September 19th, in the LGI starting at 7:30 am. Check in with your first period class before heading down if you are taking the test.
  4. Voting for Freshman class officers will begin on Wednesday, September 20th, during Lunch and Learn. Freshman, you will be able to cast your votes in the Main Office hallway. Candidate speeches will be heard during class 4.
  5. Shawnee will be holding a fundraiser for the victims of the recent hurricanes Irma and Harvey during Lunch and Learn all week. Donation cards are only $1, but you can donate more if you want to. Your donations will go a long way to helping all of those who lost everything to the hurricanes.

That’s all for this week. We publish the 5 Things every Monday right here at the Renegade Report. Our staff is getting back to work to bring all of you in the Shawnee community up-to-date news about what’s going on around our school and towns. One of our editors, Eric Schubert, wrote a nice welcome back notice, which you can read here. One of our other editors, Charlotte Mandy, also wrote a helpful guide to surviving your freshman year. If you’re part of the class of 2021, I highly recommend checking it out right here.

Have a great week, Renegades!
