The school store is a place where students can stock up on their “Renegade Pride” merchandise. It is located right past the cafeteria at the beginning of B-Hall. Business teacher Mrs. Dietz runs and operates the store on a daily basis. I had the opportunity to speak with her about the store to answer some of the questions the student body may have about the store.
Mrs. Dietz is in charge of the designing and the ordering process of all the merchandise, setting up store, as well as window displays, restocking, and all that would come with being a small business owner on top of the workload of being a teacher. All the logos on every item and every piece of merchandise are handpicked by Mrs. Dietz with careful attention to what is in trend and what she thinks students and staff would like. She is taking strides in making the items sold in the school store have more variety.
I’m sure by now you have heard about the infamous pink hoodie that sold out almost instantly, that is not the only amazing piece of clothing the school store offers. From knit beanies, to tank tops, there is something in the store for everyone.
The store is open every Lunch and Learn as well as Class 2. If you have the opportunity to stop by during that class, it would be very beneficial to the Special Education program–as a part of the community-based training class, the Special Education program works the store. This is not the only way that the school store benefits the students. All of the money made either goes right back into buying new products or it goes into funding scholarships for Business or DECA students. The payment options that the store accepts are cash, Visa, Mastercard, as well as Apple Pay, and personal checks. They do not accept Discover or American Express cards.
There are many students that run the school store at Lunch and Learn. This gives work experience with being a cashier, stocking merchandise, and communication. If you are interested in working the school store, especially as an underclassmen, stop down and talk to the people working that day or reach out to Mrs. Dietz. Working is not the only way students can get involved in the store. If anyone has any ideas for things they would like to see in the school store, Mrs. Dietz encourages them to email her with ideas.
Mrs. Dietz always tells the students to come down and check out the school store. When asked she expressed that “Students want to come to the School Store to purchase Shawnee apparel and gifts and check out the latest blue pride”The merchandise at the store is designed to unify the school community, whether it is for Blue Pride Fridays or the themes for the Friday night football games.
The School Store is an amazing place that is offered by Shawnee High School, and it really takes a village to run it. If you have never been I highly recommend taking a look around when you get the chance to see what they offer.
