The Renegade Report is run by the Newspaper Club. This club is extremely beneficial to the students that are in it, but how?
- It allows the students to advance their writing skills.
You learn by trial and error how to write in a clear and concise way. Writing for the paper allows your work to be critiqued by an English teacher so that you can be better not only for future articles, but also for work that will be graded in the future.
2. It is an excuse to get involved and out of your comfort zone.
An important part of the paper is covering school events, so you may end up going to ones that you were not planning on attending. This will make memories that are irreplaceable and ones that you will be glad you didn’t miss. The Newspaper also provides a community of young writers to work together.
3. You get to voice your opinion.
There are not many outlets in the school that allows you to voice your ideas to the school’s community, but this is one. Articles on the website get posted on social media. Your writing and opinions being shared is an amazing and safe outlet.
4. You can stay informed.
This club enhances not only your writing skills but also your researching skills. When writing an article you are expected to come up with an idea you would like to write about and research it. Whether that means writing a movie/song review, talking about pop culture news, political or current events, the skies the limit on what you can write. It allows you to go in depth, and learn more about your passions and what you want to write about.
5. It is fun and rewarding.
There is satisfaction in seeing your ideas come to life and be published. Writing can be a creative outlet that relieves stress. It is a break from stressful assignments while still being something productive and rewarding. Seeing articles published and sharing them with friends and family is something that can give you pride and a sense of accomplishment.
