On December 20th, 2022, Mr. Nick Rotindo debuted the Shawnee 2022-2023 bands in the annual winter band concert.

The show started with the school’s jazz band class or B Band. The jazz band performed ‘Little Big Gumbo’, ‘Blue’s In The Closet’, and ‘Salsa Nights’. If you are interested in joining jazz band next year, this class is welcome for all grades to audition, including incoming Freshmen from Memorial.

Jazz Ensemble was up next, playing ‘Sweet Georgia Brown’, ‘Tango’, and ‘La Suarte De Las Tontos’ featuring soloists, Mike Dubler, Rex Jacobs, and Kai Polidori.

While the Wind Ensemble was preparing for their set, the school’s steel pan ensemble played a song entitled ‘Hot on Hot’.

Wind Ensemble, along with performers from the Jazz Ensemble, performed a medley of songs from the Christmas movie, ‘Polar Express ‘, as well as the song, ‘Sleigh Ride’.

The concert ended with Concert Band joining the other two bands. They played ‘Brazilian Bell Carol’, a composition entitled ‘Hanukkah is Here’, and finished the night with Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’. Concert Band is open to all grades, and requires no audition to join.

The concert was a pleasurable experience, especially with the one-man stage crew of Mr. Nick Rotindo, turning on microphones, fixing lights, and opening and closing the stage curtain before and after each performance.

If you did not make the winter concert, you should plan on attending the spring band concert on June 1st. And, don’t hesitate to become a part of any of Shawnee High School’s bands. Who knows, you might be on that stage next year.
