The Shawnee Renegades Girls Swim Team defeated their longtime rival Cherokee Chiefs on Tuesday, January 23 with a score of 94 – 76. This leaves the girls with a 7-0 record so far this season. Senior Darrah Shuff, Freshmen Alaina Allbaugh-Heinz, and Ellie Walsh were able to secure 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the 500 Freestyle, sweeping the event. Close events ended in touch-out swims by senior Emily Andryca (200 IM) and senior Kalena Gatesman (100 breaststroke), both scoring key points for the team. With a tight score going into the final relay, Coach Meg Warren gathered the girls in a team huddle to remind them that “pain is temporary, but glory is forever.” With great swims across the board, the Renegades were able to secure a solid lead against the Chiefs. After the meet, senior captain Allie Sullivan was quoted as saying “[she’s] so proud of our team, and [she] will always believe in these girls!” The team will continue their season with a meet against the Seneca Golden Eagles on Saturday, January 28, where they will honor their senior swimmers. Followed by their final regular season face-off against the Rancocas Valley Red Devils on Friday, February 3rd. Hopefully, the team can keep up this momentum as their regular season comes to a close and they prepare for playoffs!
