Halo: The Master Chief Collection coming to PC

Halo’s legacy as a video game and pop culture legend continue to influence gaming today. Halo: The Master Chief collection brought Halo 1-4 to the modern day Xbox One. For years, since the original Halo: Combat Evolved released on the first Xbox, it has been Microsoft’s ace in the hole. The massive fan base of Halo will always buy the newest Xbox to play their favorite game, since it is the only thing they are able to play it on.

Until now.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection is coming to PC, on Steam and Microsoft’s Windows 10 store. This is especially important, as the vast majority of PC gamers use Valve Corporation’s Steam service for all their games. This new port will allow millions of more gamers to experience the legendary franchise for themselves. One of the highlights of this new PC port is that the collection will also contain Halo: Reach, the beloved prequel to the first Halo game.

This is a very strange approach by Microsoft, as keeping first party games on a company’s own console is standard procedure. Especially a franchise as big as Halo. This approach of cross platform development is even further pushed forward by the recent announcement of Cuphead, a former Xbox and PC exclusive coming to the Nintendo Switch. Microsoft is also bringing the Xbox Live online service to the Nintendo Switch as a developer tool to connect games across multiple platforms.

With the legendary Halo franchise coming to PC, the future of cross platform gaming is up in the air.
