It’s new school year here at Shawnee, and that means a whole new batch of Renegades, including new students and new teachers. I talked with Ms. Ashlie Gaynor, a new phys-ed and health teacher here at Shawnee, about her life before Shawnee, her previous teaching experience, and what’s to come at Shawnee.

Where did you go to college?
I attended Rowan University

Are you married?  How long?  Kids? Pets?
I am not married. I have one pet, a golden retriever/husky mix that I adopted named Zoey.

Where was your first job?
I got my first job working at McDonald’s at 14 years old.

Where did you go to high school?  What activities were you involved in?
Eastern Regional High School. I played soccer, basketball and softball

Did you like your own high school experience?  Best thing? Worst thing?
Yes. The best thing was being involved.  The worst thing was that it went by too fast.

Did you always want to be a teacher?
Yes, teaching runs in my family.

Why did you become a teacher?
When I was in high school one of my teachers changed my life and helped me.  I want to do the same for my students and give back to the education world like it did for me.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy playing sports and spending time with my family and dog.

What school did you transfer from?
I taught at Paulsboro High School for 4 years.

How do you like Shawnee?
I love Shawnee.  This was my dream job when I was in college.

What activities are you doing here?
I am coaching Girls Soccer.

What is the best thing about being here at Shawnee?
Everything. The students and staff here are amazing.  The school pride and the school environment are positive here as well.

What did you do over the summer break?
I taught summer school, coached sports, and spent time with my family

What is your favorite food?
Everything! Pizza, french fries, and ice cream are at the top of my list.
