Shawnee’s Character Counts Awards

Eric Schubert, Editor

As part of an initiative by Shawnee administration to bring to light and showcase exemplary students, teachers were able within these last few months to nominate students of theirs who display strong character and leadership throughout the building. I talked with photography teacher Mr. Christian Hochenberger about the initiative, and he had nothing but positive things to say. “It’s a great initiative and way to highlight students here at Shawnee”, he told me. “I like that it’s not a traditional academic award either – it doesn’t focus on grades, leadership and attitude characteristics are the main things that play a huge role.”

Around 25 or so students were recognized, with certificates of achievement being hung up on the wall by the cafeteria. Those who were recognized also received a pin from Assistant Principal Mr. Craig Bookwalter for their strong display of character, and a letter home informing parents who nominated their child for this award and why. Some of the students who were award winners are as follows :

Destiny Moore, Kayleigh Ginion, Ceara Riley, Jordana Lain, Kylie Taylor, Jackson Dyson, Samantha Davies, Ellie Myers, Sydney Raley, Nia Scarbrough, Julia Gilbert, Danielle Berson, Owen Blemlek, Charlotte Rombach, Joe Allen, Eric Schubert, Olivia Marr, Ryan Heine, Patrick Bell, Lyndsey Jones, Ellie DiBartolomeo, Claire Hauser, Claire Flannery, and Tatum-Jennifer-Bell.
